Not an Oxymoron: Why LGBTQ Affirming Christianity Makes Sense
A new talk on LGBTQ inclusion coming soon to a city (near you?)
Apologies for the brief interruption in my usual articles on spirituality, religion, the Bible, psychology, etc, but I want to quickly tell you about:
I know that many of you were introduced to me/my work through UnClobber, which is my ongoing effort to demonstrate that the Bible does not condemn those who identify LGBTQ.
But UnClobber, in many ways, is just the beginning in that its scope is relatively narrow: the clobber passages.
UnClobber explores the six passages historically (mis)used by the church to justify their discrimination against gay people (in the past) and all queer people today.
However, the posture/attitude/conviction of LGBTQ inclusion is about so much more than simply saying, “The church has been wrong about the Bible and homosexuality.”
And that’s where NOT AN OXYMORON comes in.
LGBTQ AFFIRMING CHRISTIANITY MAKES SENSE
In Not an Oxymoron I offer a comprehensive yet common sense approach to Christianity that makes the case for the logical, natural, and of-course-you-would Affirmtion of LGBTQ people.
It’s kind of like an UnClobber Part II.
A sequel. But not in a crappy way, like most sequels are.
Last year I presented (and polished) this talk a number of times. I gave it in Lubbock, in Chicago, and in Denver just to name a few.
Each time I learned more about the questions people are asking and how to round out this larger framework for inclusion.
Then last week I gave this talk in San Diego at Restoration Church and I think it’s finally hit its stride.
The night was incredible.
I’m not saying this to puff myself up—this isn’t about me.
It’s about the material, the ideas, the Truths embedded in this talk.
It’s about the liberation that happens.
It’s about the healing that transpires.
It’s about the empowering of removing shame and condemnation, and in its place offering belonging, authenticity, and love.
Upcoming March Events
Next week I’ll be in South Carolina where I’ll be presenting this talk a couple more times and I could not be more excited. (In addition to Not an Oxymoron I’ll also be doing some other things in S.C. while there, so check out the dates below.)
Then later this year I’ll be traveling to Milwaukee, Denver, Kentucky, and Nashville.
So if you are at all interested in hosting or bringing Not an Oxymoron to your church or city, let’s chat ASAP.
I only have a handful of weekends left in 2025!
