Right on Corey! Thanks for taking the risks that you do through your books and articles. You open yourself up to attack by being so vulnerable. You pave the way for others. It must be a challenge to remain patient with others and to be humble. 😊

Rachel Held Evans in her book ‘Inspired’ I think said about how many evangelicals do mental gymnastics trying to fit the square of what ‘bible clearly says’ to the round of what they want it to say.

It's hard to determine the intent of people who leave comments like this. My guess is that it's a form of one-ups-man-ship. I don't think they're interested in genuine dialog. They probably wouldn't be receptive to being told that they need to become better Bible scholars.

When my husband and I left a non-affirming church during a church split many of our closest friends were puzzled. The comment we heard most was "but the Bible clearly says." And by leaving, did that mean we no longer accepted what the Bible clearly said? Oh, the horror! We didn't spend a lot of time trying to explain our interpretation of those texts. It would have fallen on deaf ears. We just left.

I'm confused you say the "some 3,000 years ago the Israelite tribe worked out their founding documents...including Leviticus..." came up with this rule and yet the Book starts out: "1 Then the Lord called to Moses and spoke to him from the Meeting Tent..."

"Since the Bible Clearly States": "Then the Lord called to Moses and spoke to him from the Meeting Tent..." The impression is that these rules are dictated from God to Moses and not by some sort of Israelite convention of rules meeting.

Where in Leviticus does it imply that the people came up with these rules? Since clarity is a legitimate concept?
