This Shift in Perspective is Huge
I've noticed there's a particular way to see people (and life in general) that, if you embody it, really changes your quality of life and relationships.
There’s something I really like about myself.
And it’s not just that I’ve come a long way since the above photo in 2010 😳 (what’s more offensive: Those side burns? That ungodly soul patch?! Or the Jimmy Neutron inspired faux-hawk that, yes, required a flat iron to pull off?! 🤦🏻♂️)
No, the thing I’m thinking of goes much deeper than that. Sure, self deprecation is fun and funny and has its place, but let’s not lose sight of the power of occasionally celebrating things about ourselves that we like. 🥳
I’m going to tell you what that is in a bit, but in order to get there I need to cover some ground first—which I’ll do over the next four days.
So buckle up, because we’re going somewhere this week that I think is really important. It starts here…
There’s a particular way of seeing the world—of seeing other people, and seeing ourselves—that I think is key for the sake of our collective wellbeing.
But in order to get there I first want to pull together threads from three different stories. As we go along, each day I’ll conclude with a statement to summarize the point for that day so that, come Wednesday, we’ll have three statements that form what I think is an incredibly valuable concept to embody in life.
To start, a story from when I was lifting weights the other day and my coach said something I really needed to hear.
Then, we’ll take a trip to Middle Earth and glean a necessary insight from an oft overlooked character from The Fellowship of the Ring.
Next (because once-a-preacher always-a-preacher), I’ll write about a teaching from Jesus that I think should be more easy to understand than we often give it credit for.
Finally, I’ll pull it all together by telling you something I really admire about myself, and yet I know I have so much farther yet to go in this.
Let us begin, shall we?
