Three Values that Help Me Know How I Want to Live
When I don't know where I'm going, I rely on my Core Values to know how to keep moving ahead.
The other day I shared this post in which I referenced my favorite line from The Lion Tracker’s Guide to Life.
One of the author’s best mates, Renias, is a lifelong tracker in South Africa, and he knows the land and the animals so intimately that even if (or rather, even when, because it’s bound to happen) he loses the path because the tracks disappear, he knows what to do next.
His motto is,
“I may not know where I’m going, but I know how to get there.”
And I freaking love that.
Like I said the other day, my life right now is incredibly untethered to any clear or predictable path. I don’t know where I’m going. Each day feels like its own victory just to get through.
Where will life take me from here?
No clue.
But I sure as hell know how to get there. Because the “how” is my Values. And my values give me guidance for how to function, in any given situation, that ensures I’ll still be going in the general direction of who I want to be and the life I want to live.
Here are the current three core values that guide my life every single day.
