The Night I Tried to Impress both Jesus and a Girl at the Same Time

Recently on fire for the Lord, and reuniting with a friend (girl) who I hadn't seen in years, this night had all the makings for something epic.

No Sleeves, No Shame, No Problem

Shortly after the week that changed my life forever my youth pastor recruited me to join the youth group worship band.

Because I was musical? Nope. Not yet, anyway. At that point in my life (17 years old) I didn’t play an instrument, nor had I given singing any real effort. Therefore, looking back it was an odd invitation extended my way.

I’m guessing he asked me, though, because he noticed my passion and enthusiasm for Jesus (as outlined here) and wanted to stoke that fire. Makes sense.

Plus, he probably saw the potential upside for having one of the “cool” kids who ran with the “popular crowd” be in a leadership position up on stage.

Now the only thing more cringe than writing that last sentence (“cool” and “popular”? Really? 🥴) is the story I’m about to tell you.

And it has to do with this photo and the night I tried impress both Jesus and a girl.
